Englewood officials may be considering the police department's proposal to install surveillance cameras along Palisades Avenue as a way of boosting security in the city's busy downtown shopping area, according to NorthJersey.com.
Police officials believe the video camera system would aid in solving and preventing crimes and can help fill in for cops walking the beat which has been a challenge to keep up in recent years due to a reduction in man power, according to the report.
As for privacy concerns, police officials told city council the cameras would only focus on pedestrian and vehicle traffic, according to the report. Funding for the $300,000 system would come from forfeited funds from federal agencies and the county prosecutor's office, according to NorthJersey.com.
