Englewood School District Among ‘Race To The Top’ Applicants
The school district applied as part of a consortium with Bergenfield, Garfield and Carteret in vying for at least $5 million of the $400 million being awarded to 15 to 25 applicants nationwide.

The U.S. Department of Education announced Wednesday that more than 1,100 school districts have applied for the Race to the Top-District (RTT-D) competition for 2012, and the Englewood School District was among them.
The 2012 RTT-D program, which will award a total of $400 million to at least 15 and as many as 25 individual school districts or consortiums in the country by Dec. 31, supports “classroom-level reform efforts” in schools, according to federal education officials.
Englewood joined fellow Bergen County school districts Bergenfield and Garfield in applying as part of a consortium, which also includes the Carteret School District, according to the Education Department’s list of applicants.

The four-year federal grants are from $5 million to $40 million and depend on the specific proposal submitted to “personalize education for all students and provide school leaders and teachers with key tools that help them best meet their students' needs,” officials said.
