Englewood Teachers, Board of Ed Reach Contract Settlement

A lengthy battle over contact negotiations between Englewood teachers and the Board of Education has finally come to an end.

Last week the Board approved a retroactive contract giving teachers a flat $1,000 pay increase for 2012-2013 and will now approve a new 3-year contract next month, according to a NorthJersey.com.

The 3-year contract  was supposed to have been voted on last Thursday however it was pushed off until the October meeting due to a technicality, according to the report.

Contention began last July when the teachers contract ran out which led to months of protesting as teachers fought the Board on their proposal to freeze wages for two years in order to close a budget gap, according to NorthJersey.com.

David Vignola, co-president of the Englewood Teachers Association told NorthJersey.com he gives credit to the board's new members and district leaders for helping to settle the contract dispute.
