Firefighter Convicted of Sex Assault at Englewood Home
Suspended Hackensack firefighter faces 15 years in prison.

A Hackensack firefighter was convicted Tuesday of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at her Englewood home last year, NorthJersey.com reported.
A jury found suspended firefighter David Fernandez guilty on two counts of sexual assault, child endangerment and criminal sexual contact after more than three days of deliberations, the report said. The jury was hung on two additional counts of sexual assault and criminal sexual contact.
Fernandez faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced Aug. 16. He could also be given lifetime parole and required to register as a sex offender.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office accused Fernandez of having sex with the teen when he was 39. The assault came to light after the girl told her mother.
According to the report, the victim's mother recorded a conversation with Fernandez before turning to authorities.
