Hillsdale Man Sexually Assaulted Child: Bergen County Prosecutors

An 82-year-old Hillsdale man was arrested Tuesday for sexually assaulting a child, prosecutors said.

HILLSDALE, NJ — A Hillsdale man was arrested Tuesday for having sexually assaulted a child in the past, prosecutors said.

David M. Stewart, 82, of Hillsdale, was charged with sexual assault and with endangering the welfare of a child, said Bergen County prosecutors on Wednesday.

Prosecutors said that on Nov. 23, the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency contacted the Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding alleged sexual assaults of a child that had occurred in the past.

Detectives determined that Stewart sexually assaulted and endangered a child in Hillsdale on more than one occasion between April 2014 and April 2016, prosecutors said.

According to a legal document obtained by Patch, the child was under 13 at the time of the alleged assaults.

Stewart was taken to the Bergen County Jail to await a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, prosecutors said.
