Englewood Man Chosen for Bergen Leadership Program

Bergen residents and business people take part in group initiative to tackle county challenges.

Local business leader Samuel Lee of Englewood is taking part in this year's Bergen LEADS class, a civic leadership group sponsored by the Volunteer Center of Bergen County.

Lee, of Encounters in Black Traditions, Inc. joins a group of two dozen Bergen residents and business people in this program which prepares leaders to tackle the tough challenges facing the county today and in the future.

The class, which was chosen though a competitive process in early 2013, will meet monthly to dissect issues, debate viewpoints and develop approaches to community problems.

Former Bergen County Executive William "Pat" Schuber serves as Bergen LEADS seminar director. The group will be immersed in a curriculumthat not only introduces them to topical issues of local importance but also enables them to explore their leadership styles, enhance their leadership capacity and become meaningfully engaged in helping to solve some of the challenges facing Bergen County.

Funding for Bergen LEADS is provided by participant tuition plus generous contributions from individuals and area corporations and foundations, including BD, Palisades Educational Foundation, PSE&G, United Water Foundation and the Russell Berrie Foundation.

Bergen LEADS seeks individuals from all ethnic, racial and socio-economic backgrounds who espouse different political, religious and social views for future classes.  Visit www.bergenleads.org  for more information. Applications for the next Bergen LEADS class will be accepted January 1 to April 2, 2014.
