PSE&G Warns Customers About Phone Scam

PSE&G has received complaints from customers who claim that they received calls demanding payment.

The gas and electric company is urging its customers to be wary of a telephone scam where callers threaten to shut off PSE&G services if payment is not made that day.

Resident and small business customers have both reported receiving these calls from individuals acting as PSE&G employees. The fraudulent callers demand that customers make a payment within hours using a Green Dot Money Pak, a type of pre-paid card unavailable at pharmacies and convenience stores.

“PSE&G does not accept these cards,” the company said in a statement. “The utility offers a variety of payment options and would never require a customer to use one specific type of payment.”
