Beset by reduced grant opportunities and declining donations, Englewood-based non-profit organization Art Horizons is struggling to achieve its mission, according to a report on shrinking arts funding in North Jersey.

Created in 1978, Arts Horizons provides live professional performances and artist-in residence programs to students in the tri-state area. It also offers professional deveopment for teachers, according to its website.

"There's no question it's a challenge to continue services," Executive Director Elizabeth Halverstam told northjersey.com.

Halverstam said the non-profit offers educational programs that use art to help reinforce concepts in other subjects.

It has also formed a partnership with The ZONE, operated by the Bergen Family Center out of Dwight Englewood High School. Because the school district does not pay for the programs, Arts Horizons must obtain grants and privately fundraise, according to the report.
