Special Police Officer in Bergen County Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle

A second special police officer who was also hit is in stable condition.

A 22-year-old Cliffside Park Special Police Officer died Monday morning after he and another special police officer were struck by a vehicle as they crossed a street Saturday.

Stephen Petruzzello died after undergoing surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center, according to NorthJersey.com. The second special police officer, 24-year-old Thaier Abdallah, is in stable condition.

Petruzzello and Abdallah were crossing Walker Street near First Street sometime around 6:30 p.m. when they were struck by a Honda CR-V driven by 62-year-old Anie Kalayjian, who said she did not see the officers.

Kalayjian, who was issued a motor vehicle summons but not charged with a crime, may have additional charges coming her way, according to NJ.com.
