Teaneck Man Charged With Englewood Attempted Murder Held on $500K Bail

A 26-year-old Teaneck man charged with brutally stabbing a man at an Englewood restaurant last month waived extradition from New York City and was being held at the Bergen County Jail Friday, authorities said.

Marque Edwards Jr. was transferred from a New York detention center Wednesday after being arrested June 21, city jail records show.

Edwards faces an attempted murder charge in connection with the knife attack. He was being held at the county jail on $500,000 bail, according to the sheriff’s department.

Englewood police accused Edwards of repeatedly stabbing 36-year-old Sule Ouhuru at the New Jade Lee Kitchen on West Palisade Avenue June 7. At the time of the attack, Ouhuru was free on bail on charges he held his ex-girlfriend against her will, stole her car and fired a stolen gun at her, narrowly missing their daughter’s crib. Edwards later started dating the woman and the stabbing was apparently an act of revenge.

“His wounds were some of the worst I’ve seen on a surviving victim,” Englewood Police Detective Capt. Timothy Torell said after the stabbing.

A team from the Englewood Police, New York City Police Department, Bergen County Sheriff’s Department, prosecutor’s office and U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force later captured Edwards at a Bronx apartment. Torell also noted “invaluable assistance” from Teaneck detectives throughout the investigation.
