Vehicle Thefts Prompt Warning From Englewood Police
Residents shouldn't leave valuables out in plain sight, take their keys and key fobs with them, and remember to lock their doors.
ENGLEWOOD, NJ — Police are warning residents to lock their vehicles and use common sense following a rash of vehicle break-ins and burglaries that were reported in North Jersey recently.
Deputy Chief Gregory Halstead said people should take the following precautions to prevent becoming victims of crimes of opportunity:
- Always keep your vehicle locked, even while driving
- When parked, never leave keys or key fobs in the car
- Close all windows and sunroof
- Never leave a car running and unattended
- Do not leave valuables out where people can see them
- Do not leave a vehicle's title in it and keep the registration hidden inside a vehicle
- Install an anti-theft system
- Park in a well-lit area
- Be aware of your surroundings, especially in garages, parking lots, and gas stations
- If confronted by a carjacker, do not resist
