Wright Arena Group Gathers Used Hockey Equipment for Reopened Rink

Started by Lisa Wisotsky, the Friends of the John T. Wright Arena collected used hockey and skating equipment for needy youngsters.

The refurbishing of the John T. Wright Arena hasn't stopped with last week's "soft opening," during which the long-shuttered facility opened its doors to free ice skating for the community.

A Friends of the John T. Wright Arena group, started by Englewood resident Lisa Wisotsky, succeeded in obtaining donations of used hockey and skating equipment to aid youngsters who might not have the wherewithal to play the game.

Mayor Frank Huttle announced the success of the donation event, which took place on Sunday, on his Englewood One website.

"This will lower some of the barriers for those residents who may not have access to skating or hockey equipment," Huttle posted.

Aides in Huttle's office didn't know how much used equipment the group was able to get. Picture on the mayor's site shows a variety of hockey sticks, along with some of the equipment's donors.

The mayor thanked Stephen Borg and the Borg family for donating much of the equipment. Borg is president and CEO of North Jersey Media Group, which publishes The Record.

"Their continued generosity and support of the Arena and the Englewood Community is something to be truly thankful of," Huttle said on his Englewood website.
