Crews Rescue Ducklings Washed Away in Storm Sewers

Submitted by Boyd A. Loving

Five ducklings trapped in a storm drain in front of McDonald's, on Broadway in Fair Lawn, were rescued by Fair Lawn emergency responders, Sunday.

Members of the Fair Lawn Heavy Rescue, Fair Lawn Fire Company #3, Fair Lawn Police Department, and Fair Lawn Animal Control Agency responded to the "quacks" for help at about 1 p.m.

The frantic mother duck, along with employees and patrons of McDonald's and a nearby IHOP, watched the rescue efforts unfold.

One lane of westbound Broadway was blocked near 36th Street as emergency personnel worked inside a storm drain.  Another storm drain inside the McDonald's parking lot was also opened to facilitate rescue efforts.
