Fair Lawn To Kick Off '250th Kickoff Celebration' For America's Birthday Next Week

FAIR LAWN, NJ — As America prepares for the 250th anniversary of independence, Fair Lawn will host events starting next week to commemorate the Revolutionary War and other key turning points in history.

The RevNJ Fair Lawn 250th Committee and Fair Lawn High School will host the “Fair Lawn Revolution 250 Kick-Off Celebration” on Jan. 6 at 6 p.m.

The event will be held at Fair Lawn High School,14-00 Berdan Ave. It's free and open to the public.

High School principal Dr. Steffany Baptiste is the co-chair of the event.

“Fair Lawn High School plays an essential role in the Fair Lawn Revolution 250 kick-off event because it serves as a central hub for educating, engaging, and uniting the community with the town’s historical legacy," he said. "Hosting student-led exhibits and activities, the school empowers students to take an active role in preserving and interpreting local history."

A “Town Square Celebration” will begin in the high school’s B-Gym at 6 p.m.

Families and community members will be able to enjoy various exhibits, displays and activities related to the history of the United States, the State of New Jersey, and Fair Lawn, organizers said.

Exhibitors will include Fair Lawn Rev 250, Fair Lawn Police, Garretson Forge & Farm, Provident Bank, Friends of the Maurice M. Pine Pubic Library, Fair Lawn Historic Preservation Commission, FLHS Fashion & Interior Design, FLHS National Art Honor Society, FLHS French Honor Society, FLHS National English Honor Society & Social Studies Society, and Westmoreland Elementary School fourth grade, among others.

The FLHS Woodshop classes will showcase their handcrafted stockade and historical silhouettes as part of the celebration.

At 7 p.m., a Colonial Costume Parade will be held followed by the Fair Lawn Town Crier, Tim Yuskatis, the event’s official Master-of-Ceremonies leading the attendees to the FLHS auditorium for the formal presentation of the evening, including a reading of a proclamation officially starting the Fair Lawn Revolution 250 commemoration.

Special guests will include Fair Lawn Mayor Cristina Cutrone, New Jersey State Assemblywoman Lisa Swain, Fair Lawn Superintendent of Schools Dr. Rui Dionisio, and Fair Lawn High School Principal Paul Gorski.

Rev NJ Fair Lawn is chaired by Liz Maresca, Leslie Frucht and Gail Rottenstrich, Deputy Mayor of Community Affairs.
