NJ Police Chief Rescues Woman Trapped Underwater While Tubing On Delaware River
Lebanon Township Police Chief Jason Cronce was recognized for his extraordinary actions while off duty in August.

LEBANON, NJ — A Lebanon Township Police Chief was recognized for his heroic actions in saving a woman who became trapped underwater while tubing on the Delaware River.
On Wednesday, Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson recognized Lebanon Township Police Chief Jason Cronce for his extraordinary actions while off duty.
On Aug. 17, Cronce was nearby when he saw a woman in distress in the water on the Delaware River.

The woman was tubing on the river when she encountered rapids and crashed into an overhanging tree, according to Robeson.
She was then flipped into the water and became caught under the tree and trapped underwater due to the strong current, said Robeson.

Without hesitation, Cronce entered the water and pulled her to safety, ensuring she did not drown.
"This was an extraordinary act of courage," said Robeson. "Chief Cronce’s selflessness and swift response reflect the very best of public service and a deep commitment to protecting the lives of others."
The woman, whose name is not being released, is recovering thanks to Cronce's decisive actions, said Robeson.
"The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office extends its gratitude to Chief Cronce for his dedication and leadership. His actions on August 17 serve as a reminder of the critical role law enforcement plays in safeguarding our community, both on and off duty," according to Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office.
