Fort Lee Firefighters Get Federal Grant
Fort Lee will use the money to replace older safety equipment the all-volunteer department uses.
FORT LEE, NJ β The borough's fire department will receive a federal grant to help purchase state-of-the-art breathing equipment.
The $49,000 federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant is a part of Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr.'s FIRE Act, which helps support local fire departments.
"We in Fort Lee are so very grateful for the assistance Congressman Pascrell has provided to our community, which allows local government to make sure that our first-responders are properly equipped and trained," Mayor Mark Sokolich said in a statement.

Pascrell was the main author in the U.S. House of Representatives of the FIRE and SAFER acts. Congress created the grant programs to help address, staffing, equipment, and training shortfalls local fire departments across the United States experience.
