Fort Lee Veterans Commemorate Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

The national day of remembrance is observed annually on Dec. 7. In Fort Lee, veterans and others gathered at Borough Hall to honor those who died in the attack in 1941.

Fort Lee VFW Post 2342 held its annual commemoration ceremony Friday in front of Fort Lee's Borough Hall, honoring the fallen service members who died in the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

Rev. Rick Spenst of Fort Lee Gospel Church gave the opening and closing benediction, and the ceremony included VFW Post Sr. Vice Commander Tony Lione reading a statement of facts about the attack on U.S. forces by the Japanese Navy and reciting a list of all Navy ships that were attacked.

Other speakers included Commander Hee Kim of the Korean Veterans and VFW Post Commander James Viola, who fought in the Pacific in WWII. 

In his remarks, Viola noted that the United States would endure and overcome any attack or tragedy that may occur like the country did after the attack on Pearl Harbor or the tragic events of 9/11.

The Fort Lee Police Department Honor Guard presented the colors, and officers performed a 21-gun salute in honor of the fallen service members.
