Got Water? And Other Goings On About Town
Water main break, new fire truck and what to do in Fort Lee this weekend.

Sometimes life boils down, or gushes up, to being in the right place at the right time. It just so happened that we were stopped on Route 9W at the exact time that the water main burst on Wednesday. Let’s just say this, even as water poured forth like a biblical flood, people still had to slow their cars and stare.
And so, many residents of Fort Lee were left Wednesday with either no water, or very little water pressure. We-thinks that being without water is one of the most difficult utility disturbances to endure. Not only does the world take on a feeling of parched uncleanliness, but thoughts of “What happens if there’s a fire?” begin to circulate. And, water being the enemy of fire, that becomes a real concern because if the hydrants run dry…see where I’m going with this?
Well, we had no need to worry because our amazing volunteer fire department called upon our mutual aid friends from the East Rutherford Fire Department to lend us their water-tanker truck should there be a fire and the hydrants had little or no water pressure. You may have wondered what that big red Hess-like truck was doing parked at No. 3 Firehouse yesterday with the letters ERFD printed on its sides.

New Fire Truck Arrives at Company No. 3

Speaking of the Fort Lee Fire Department, Company No. 3’s new fire truck has just arrived to replace a truck that has long been retired.
There is a tradition among fire departments that when a company gets a new truck, all the other companies in surrounding towns (and sometimes further) come to christen the new truck by hosing it down with their truck’s hoses. This is called a wetdown. Wetdown’s are not only firehouse events, but community events as well. Families can come out and see the new truck, see the trucks of the surrounding towns, and have fun. Stay tuned and we’ll let you know when Company No. 3’s wetdown will be.
