7-Year Old Victim of Fort Lee Doctor's Suicide Lay Bleeding for Hours, Report Says

Officials report that 7-year-old Ava Sangavaram lay bleeding for hours after mother stabbed her before taking her own life.

Clarkstown police said the 7-year old girl who survived a stabbing attack by her mother lay bleeding on the floor for several hours after her mother slashed her own throat with a kitchen knife, according to a report by Lohud.com.

Ava Sangavaram remained in stable condition Monday at the Westchester Medical Center after undergoing surgery for multiple stab wounds and a slash across her throat, the report said.

Clarkstown Police found 45-year-old Dr. Victoria Vovchik dead in her Quarry Drive home on Feb. 28 and her seven-year-old daughter was discovered with multiple lacerations. Vovchik is a podiatrist whose office is located on Lemoine Ave. in Fort Lee.

Detective Lt. Charles Delo told Lohud.com the child was "inside the bedroom at least a couple of hours before she was found.”

“I believe she was sitting on the bed. She is lucky, in one sense, to be alive. I think she has a long road ahead of her.”

Lohud.com reported that Ava didn’t suffer any vital damage to organs, and one stab wound “missed her heart by a millimeter,” said Sangavaram’s longtime lawyer, Barry Cocoziello.
