Officials warned that the suspect is considered dangerous and is expected to be armed. Anyone who believes they have seen him is urged to not approach and instead immediately call 9-1-1.
The attack originally happened last Thursday about 100 feet off the Henry Hudson Trail.
The woman was running in the area when she noticed a man stretching nearby, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey said.
Moments later, he attacked her and made her fall to the ground. He brandished a knife, which he used to cause minor injuries to her arm.
The man also allegedly exposed himself and attempted to sexually assault the woman, but she managed to fight back and he fled in an unknown direction, according to Linskey.
