Monmouth County Park System To Host Freshwater Fishing Derby

Open to both beginner and experienced anglers, the park system derby will feature free fishing clinics, prizes and more.

MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ — The Monmouth County Park System is set to host its Freshwater Fishing Derby this summer.

Open to both beginner and experienced anglers, the event will kick off on Saturday, June 14, at the Manasquan Reservoir in Howell with a hands-on fishing clinic from 12:30-1:30 p.m.

During the clinic, park system staff will cover how to cast and rig, as well as answer questions. Following the clinic, the fishing derby will be held from 2-5 p.m.

On Sunday, June 15, the action will move to Turkey Swamp Park in Freehold, where a free, hands-on fishing clinic will once again be held from 12:30-1:30 p.m., followed by the fishing derby from 2-5 p.m.

Prizes will be awarded each day for the longest fish in three different categories. Anglers can bring their own fishing pole or rent one for $5.

The cost of each day of the fishing derby is $28 per family of four, or $9 per person. A container of worms is also included with each registration.

Pre-registration is suggested, though walk-ins are welcome. On-site registration is cash, check, or credit card.
