Monmouth County Floods, Power Outages Reported, Road Closures

After several inches of rain over Tuesday night, over a dozen towns reported power outages and roads flooded.

Heavy rain led to power outages through Monmouth County early Wednesday.

As of 5:30 this morning, in Monmouth County, 2,200 customers were without power from the heavy rain storm last night. Hazlet outages numbered at about 900; Holmdel with about 600; 200 in Middletown, and 150 in West Long Branch, according to the Asbury Park Press.

About a dozen other towns in the county made up the remaining outages, according to the outage map provided on Jersey Central Power and Light’s website.

JCP&L spokesperson, Ron Morano, said there are currently less than 400 residents without power as of 9 am in Monmouth County, and a little under 200 were in Middletown.

New Jersey Transit has posted an alert for all travelers to leave extra time because of weather-related problems. North Jersey Coast Line reports that flooding is causing problems at the Bay Head yard, the southernmost location and beginning of the train line, at 6:02 a.m. with “high water conditions making it difficult for crews to access the yard,” the site reports. All travelers should prepare for added commuting time and bus tickets are being cross honored to destinations, according to the site.

As of 8:21am, there is a sinkhole on NJ 34 southbound from south of Belmar Boulevard to south of Monmouth Executive Airport in Wall Township, according to 511nj.org The right lane remains closed and drivers are advised to use caution.

As of 8:48am, there’s Flooding on NJ 71 in both directions north of Brighton Avenue in Deal. All lanes remain closed and drivers are advised to use caution.
