The Board of County Commissioners is also inviting the loved ones of those who lost their lives to not only attend the ceremony, but take part in it by reading the names of those we lost in Monmouth County.

“We know in some instances close family members have moved away or may not be able to join us, so we also welcome extended family who would like to help honor their loved ones,” Commissioner Director Thomas Arnone said.

In addition to the county’s annual memorial ceremony, Monmouth County will also close its offices on Sept. 11, as the day has been declared a County Day of Remembrance for the third consecutive year.

The county holiday aims to give its employees the chance to “reflect on the tragic events and lasting impacts of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001,” Arnone said.

“Our county tragically lost 147 people who were born, raised, or resided in Monmouth County during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and the County’s Memorial Ceremony honors their memory,” Commissioner Ross Licitra said. “With symbolic components throughout the Memorial, it is a powerful reminder of those we lost on that tragic day and the impact it had on families throughout Monmouth County and the country.”

Those interested in participating in the 2025 Monmouth County September 11 Memorial Ceremony are asked to email Lauren Brand at Lauren.Brand@co.monmouth.nj.us or Danielle Banyacski at Danielle.Banyacski@co.monmouth.nj.us by Monday, Sept. 1.
