Democrats Take Lead In The NJ-11 Assembly Race

FREEHOLD, NJ — After the first results showed Sen. Vin Gopal behind Republican Lori Anetta for hours after polls closed, the incumbent is now in the lead, according to unofficial results.

With 158 of 160 precincts reporting, Gopal has 50.79 percent of the vote and Annetta has 49.21 percent.

"Four years ago, not many people thought that we could flip this seat -- but we did. And we have made incredible progress during this first term," Gopal said in an email to supporters on Tuesday. "In my four years in office, we’ve always strived to put people first, especially when times got tough. I’m proud of the work that we did to aid our families, seniors, schools, and small businesses during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic."

In the race for General Assembly, however, Republicans Kim Eulne and Marilyn Piperno are still ahead of incumbent Democrats Joann Downey and Eric Houghtaling

Mail-in votes will still have to be counted and the Monmouth County Clerk will have to certify the results before they are official.

  • Lori Annetta (R) - 33,475

District 11 General Assembly:

  • Marilyn Piperno (R) - 34,497
    Dominique Faison (I) - 1,113
