Victim Of Route 9 Accident In Freehold Township Is Identified

FREEHOLD, NJ — The county prosecutor has released the identity of the man who died in a Tuesday morning accident in Freehold Township - Daniel Kaplan, 78, of Freehold Township.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but the prosecutor's office said Wednesday no criminal charges or summonses are being filed at this time.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Serious Collision Analysis Response Team is in charge of the investigation and confirmed Kaplan died in the accident.

There is no information available as yet on what caused the accident, authorities said.

The seven-vehicle crash happened at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Route 9 north and Business Route 33. The crash closed Route 9 in the township until it was reopened approximately five hours later Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The crash is currently under investigation by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the response team and the Freehold Township Police Department.

The crash required an emergency response that closed the road at Route 9 and Business Route 33 north of the Barnes & Noble store, the township police reported earlier Tuesday.

According to a report by News 12 New Jersey, a driver seemed unable to stop at a light, colliding with other vehicles.
