Pedestrian, 61, Dies After Being Struck By Pick-Up In Freehold Twp.
On Tuesday, a pedestrian walking on Route 9 in Freehold Township was struck by a pick-up truck and died at the scene, authorities say.

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, NJ — A pedestrian on Route 9 was struck and killed by a pick-up truck Tuesday night, and the accident is under investigation, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said Wednesday.
At approximately 5:35 p.m. on Jan. 9, members of the Freehold Township Police Department responded to the southbound lanes of Route 9, several hundred feet north of the interchange with Route 33, to find the victim, a 61-year-old male, lying in the roadway, according to the prosecutor.
The man was pronounced deceased at the scene, the prosecutor said. Several people who saw the aftermath of the accident commented on the Freehold Township Facebook site Tuesday night about the incident, some saying they were praying for the victim.

Police also posted on Wednesday that Route 9 south will be closed at Route 537 on Thursday, Jan. 11, at 10:30 a.m. to continue to investigate the accident. Motorists are advised to plan an alternate route.
The driver, 48, was operating a 2001 Ford F-150 pick-up truck. He remained on the scene, Santiago said.

No criminal charges have been filed nor traffic summons issued as yet with regard to this incident, the prosecutor's office said.
An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Freehold Township Police Department is underway.
