Star Student Athlete: Freehold's Joseph Prevailed After Setbacks
We all know athletes who shine whether they're competing or not. Let's help share these amazing stories!

FREEHOLD, NJ— We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.
This submission comes from Tiffany who nominated Joseph, a Freehold senior. Joseph is her nephew and she said he has overcome injuries lately but he maintains his spirits on and off the wrestling mat.

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?
He is the hardest working human I know (on and off the mat). After back-to-back injuries that required two knee surgeries his sophomore year, he worked incredibly hard to come back to the sport and made it all the way to become a state qualifier last year.
But this is nothing compared to who he has become outside of the sport. He is the senior class VP, extremely active in various school clubs, a high achieving student with big dreams to do great things in the world.
When I say he is well liked, admired even, I am not exaggerating. His teachers have often reached out to me to tell me how kind he is. His long list of accomplishments pales in comparison to the stellar human that he is.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?
Despite what life throws at him, he is a steady beacon of light in an often turbulent world.
Keep up the great work, Joseph, senior in high school!
