Town Hall mural depicting Freehold history is a highlight of the walk, beginning at 2 p.m. at the borough hall at 30 Mechanic St.

FREEHOLD, NJ — You can immerse yourself in original art - along with some Freehold history - at the Freehold Art Society Art Walk this Saturday, Aug. 26.
The walk starts at 2 p.m. at the Freehold Borough Town Hall at 30 Mechanic St. and will tour art highlights in the borough, including:
- Town Hall Art Show
- Freehold Borough Town Hall mural
- Freehold Arts Council mural
- Half Mile of Horses exhibits on Main Street
- Freehold Art Gallery
The Freehold mural in borough hall was painted by Freehold Art Society founder Wini Smart in the 1980s and recently supplemented by current Art Society President Leslie Daley, according to the Freehold Art Society website.

The work depicts Freehold’s history in two large 12-foot by 8-foot panels, now in the new borough hall meeting room. Smart was the best friend of Daley's mother, said Daley. "It was such an honor" to work on her mural, she added.
At the same site, Freehold Borough Hall, various paintings by Freehold Art Society members are on display.

From there is a stop at Freehold’s outdoor mural. The mural is on the side of the Court Jester in the Market Yard and was done by the Freehold Arts Council, said Daley. It was restored and moved to its location with the help of Neighborhood Preservation Program funds, she said.
The program also funded the Half Mile of Horses on Main Street and South Street, another exhibit that is part of the Art Walk, she added.
The Art Walk ends at Freehold Art Gallery, 7 W. Main St., second floor.
"I’m excited about the Walk, and I hope we have a big crowd," Daley said.
The Freehold Art Society is sponsoring an art show and contest of members' works. Winners of the art contest will be announced at that time. Light refreshments will be served in what Daley said will be a fun reception.
