There’s Still Time To Catch Fall Festivals Near Freehold

FREEHOLD-FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, NJ — Fall is a great time to get outside in Freehold and Freehold Township and take in the rich offering of festivals.

The changing colors of autumn provide a scenic background for fall and harvest festivals, which have contests ranging from apple bobbing and pumpkin carving to lumberjack contests and Halloween parades.

Fall is also the season for corn mazes, pumpkin patches and apple orchard visits.

Here are a few festivals and events in Freehold or Freehold Township worth putting on the calendar:

Freehold Borough:

• Monster Mash and Jack-o'-Lantern Contest is Oct. 22, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hall of Records, Main Street. Bring your already decorated pumpkin and enjoy a night filled with games, inflatables, prizes, music, dancing, face painting and more.
• Court Street School tour: walk through the 'haunted house' basement of the Court Street School. Tours are Oct. 28 and 29, 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m; 140 Court Street.
• Dress up in your favorite costume and take part in the costume contest and/or march in the parade - or stay along the sidelines and watch as the parade moves through town. Prizes will be awarded to the costume contest winners. Line up along Main Street before the parade starts at 1 p.m. Oct. 30. Every Spooktacular event is free and open to the public.

Freehold Township:

• Safe Candy Trunk or Treat: Township residents ages 2 to 14. The event is at Michael J. Tighe Park on Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Participants will meet in front of the Recreation Office where they will receive a loot bag and tickets for each decorated vehicle. Children must wear a costume. Michael J. Tighe Park is at 65 Georgia Road, Freehold, NJ 07728.
• Abundant Life Church of God of Freehold, Friend Day and Harvest Festival, 632 Colts Neck Road, Sunday, Oct. 23. Games, inflatables petting zoo and more. Check the Facebook site for details.
