The prosecutor's office recounted the facts in the incident:

On Monday, Feb. 8, 2016 at approximately 8:18 p.m., members of the Neptune Township Police Department went to the 1300 block of Seventh Avenue in Neptune Township for a report of a shooting.

Officers found Thorne, 20, of Bradley Beach in the driver’s seat of a 2002 red Dodge Neon, wounded by a single gunshot wound to the chest. Thorne was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he would later be pronounced dead.

The investigation showed that Thorne was sitting in the car with two others at the time of the shooting, the prosecutor's office said.

A joint investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Neptune Township Police Department "revealed McDuffie and Joshua’s involvement in the homicide," according to Santiago.

The investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
