Update: Police Release Name of Driver Killed at Wall Stadium
Amanda Gambacorto has been named as the driver who crashed and was killed Saturday afternoon at Wall Stadium.

New Jersey State Police have released the name of the 21-year-old driver killed early Saturday at Wall Stadium Speedway in Wall Township.
Amanda Gambacorto, of Belford, was driving a 600cc ”3/4 midget” racecar when she lost control and struck the wall, according to State Police Director of Communications, Stephen Jones.
Gambacorto was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center with head trauma. She was pronounced dead at 1:26 p.m., according to Jones.

A former Wall Stadium track official, who wished to remain anonymous, was at the track at the time of the accident and said that Gambacorto hit the wall of the second turn- a corner of the racetrack that has been the scene of multiple serious wrecks at the track. The anonymous official said that Gambacorto hit the wall hard enough to have “cracked her helmet”.
Jones could not confirm what speed Gambacorto was driving at when she lost control, but he did state that state police officers conducted an initial investigation of the racecar and found all safety equipment “appeared to be in compliance with state regulations and requirements”.

Gambacorto was taking part in Wall Stadium’s Green Flag Driving Experience, where members of the public can experience what it is like to be a racecar driver first-hand by getting behind the wheel and driving one of the smaller models of racecars that compete at the track.
“Driving experiences” like the Green Flag Driving Experience offered at Wall Stadium are common at racetracks across the country, although the programs vary track to track and with state laws and regulations. Some test-driving opportunities involve having a driving instructor in the passenger seat of the racecar, similar to a driving school and instructor.
Jones confirmed that Gambacorto was the only occupant in the racecar. Midget racecar models do not allow for passenger seats, as they are single-seat racecars.
Wall Stadium officials stated as of 4:00 p.m. that racing events would continue as scheduled on Sunday, but all Saturday night racing was canceled immediately following the accident.
