Atlantic Classified For High Intensity Drug Trafficking: Cops

With the classification comes more resources for Atlantic County from federal funding.

MAYS LANDING, NJ - Atlantic County has been designated as a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office. With the classification, Atlantic County will be able to receive additional resources from the federal government to stop illicit drug use.

The HIDTA Program, created in 1988, provides help and support to cities and communities considered to be critical drug-trafficking regions, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

“The formation of this new HIDTA group as part of the Liberty Mid-Atlantic HIDTA will provide additional law enforcement resources to the Atlantic City area to aid in the fight against drug trafficking,” said Special Agent Valerie Nickerson of the New Jersey Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
