Borgata Casino Won't Reopen Amid Indoor Dining Ban

The casino said it will remain closed until it can guarantee its guests a "special experience."

GALLOWAY, NJ — The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City will not reopen alongside other casinos on Thursday as New Jersey allows casinos to resume business with a reduced capacity of 25 percent.

In a Facebook post, the hotel and casino said the decision to remain closed comes alongside Murphy's recent announcement that indoor dining has been suspended indefinitely in New Jersey.

"Our guests expect a special experience when they come to our property and if we cannot provide that level of hospitality, we feel it best that we remain closed until such time that the Governor lets us know it is safe to offer food and beverage," the casino's Facebook post read.

The post said the casino regrets that its employees won't be returning to work soon: "We look forward to a time when it is safe to welcome everyone back."

On Monday, Murphy unexpectedly announced he has "hit pause on the resumption of indoor dining." He's also banning New Jersey casinos from serving beverages on gaming floors or at indoor bars, according to a report in The Press of Atlantic City.

“Compliance is not a polite suggestion. It is a requirement,” Murphy said Monday.
