Egg Harbor Township Police Issue Warning On Car Burglaries

52 vehicles have been burglarized so far in 2019, according to police.

Egg Harbor Township police warned residents Wednesday about the frequency of area car burglaries. Egg Harbor police have received 52 vehicle-burglary reports in 2019, as of Wednesday morning, after receiving 176 in 2018.

The overwhelming majority of these thefts involve unlocked vehicles, police said. Suspects will walk though an area or neighborhood and enter unlocked vehicles, according to EHTPD.

"They will take anything of value that they find," EHTPD wrote on Facebook. "This includes change, CD's, GPS units, laptops, wallets, EZ Pass units, garage door openers and virtually anything else left in the vehicle."

Egg Harbor police estimated that many more burglaries go unreported because the value of the stolen property is too small. EHTPD requests that residents always lock their doors and remove all valuables and keys from vehicles.

If you observe any suspicious activity, you can call EHTPD at 609-927-5200.
