Stabbing Victim Runs To AC Police Department, Dies Later

One of the victims ran across the street to the Atlantic City police department, where she collapsed, prosecutor said

MAYS LANDING- An Atlantic City stabbing victim who ran to the police department after she was attacked later died at the AtlantiCare City campus, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner said.

Raphy Rodriguez, 34, and his wife Jennifer, 34, were in their apartment at 3 South Iowa Avenue at 6:35 a.m. on April 11, when Rollie Ellis, 28 (pictured), stabbed the couple after an altercation. Jennifer Rodriguez escaped the apartment and ran to the Atlantic City Police Department, which is across the street from the apartment complex, Tyner said.

Ellis, Pleasantville, was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in Jennifer Rodriguez's death, Tyner said.

Jennifer Rodriguez was found in the lobby of the police department unresponsive and bleeding from a stab wound to the back of the head/neck. She was taken to AtlantiCare City campus, where she was later pronounced deceased, the prosecutor said.

Raphy Rodriguez was also able to escape the apartment. He flagged down an Atlantic City Police officer on Iowa Avenue. He was taken to the hospital with several serious stab wounds, but is expected to survive, Tyner said.

Ellis is in custody in the Atlantic County Justice Facility. This was a joint investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Atlantic City Police Department.
