South Jersey Burglar Breaks Into Car, Gets Trapped Inside: Police

The burglar broke into the car without knowing that it had faulty doors, trapping him inside until police arrived on the scene.

HAMILTON, NJ — An attempted car burglary in South Jersey had an interesting twist: the thief got trapped inside of the car after breaking in.

On Thursday night, Township of Hamilton police went to Lonestar Steakhouse for the report of a car burglary in process.

The victim told police that when he walked over to his car, there was an unknown man inside.

Police said that normally at this point in the investigation, they would search through video surveillance, look for fingerprints or try to find other evidence. That wasn't the case here.

Unbeknownst to the burglar, the car had faulty doors that couldn't be opened from the inside, and only the car's owner knew the trick, police said.

As a result, the accused burglar - 19-year-old Pleasantville resident Jeison Henriquez Sanchez - couldn't get out of the car until police arrived and opened the door for him.

Sanchez was charged with burglary and taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility on unrelated charges.

"Chief Michael Virga and the Township of Hamilton Police Department want remind everyone: Don’t be a victim, please remember to remove any valuables from your vehicle and LOCK YOUR DOORS (unless you too have a faulty door)!" police said.
