South Jersey Man Gets 10 Years For Murder Of Galloway Woman

Darren Winningham will serve at least 8 years and 6 months for the shooting death of Nikita Cross, 35, before he is eligible for parole.

MOUNT HOLLY, NJ - A Riverside Township man will spend the next 10 years in state prison for the murder of a Galloway Township woman at a party in his home in April 2016, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina said.

Darren Winningham, 44, previously pleaded guilty to the fatal shooting of Nikita Cross, 35, Galloway Township.

Superior Court Judge Terrence R. Cook, J.S.C., sentenced Winningham, 44, to 10 years, for first-degree aggravated manslaughter. But under the state's No Early Release Act, he must serve eight years and six months before he is eligible for parole, authorities said.

Area police officers responded to a report of a subject with a gun at a party inside an apartment in the 200 block of Hooker Street in Riverside Township on the night of April 23, 2016. They found Cross on the floorfloor with a gunshot wound to her chest. The Delran Emergency Squad took her to Lourdes Medical Center in Willingboro, where she was pronounced dead.

Winningham was taken into custody without incident, and has been lodged in the Burlington County Jail since his arrest.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Bob VanGilst, supervisor of the Major
Crimes Unit. The investigation was conducted by detectives from the Burlington County
Prosecutor’s Office and the Riverside Police Department.
