South Jersey Woman Victim Of Homicide, Prosecutor Says

Vernell K. Vance had significant head injuries, prosecutor says

ATLANTIC CITY - An Atlantic City woman whose body was found Saturday night with serious head injuries was the victim of an apparent homicide, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner said.

Police received a 911 call at 11:28 p.m. that a body had been found behind 21 South Tennessee Avenue. When police arrived, Vernell K. Vance, 56, was already dead of "significant" blunt force head trauma, the prosecutor.

An autopsy has been tentatively scheduled for Monday, today.

Vance's death is under investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department, Tyner said.
