4 Camden Co. Towns Among Nation's Best 'Hidden Gem' Housing Markets: New List

Camden County dominates the rankings of small locales where GoBankingRates says you can still buy a home at a bargain.

CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — Four Camden County towns stand among the nation's best "hidden gem" housing markets, according to a new list.

GOBankingRates ranked the top 25 hidden-gem locales — small towns where homebuyers can still find a bargain, according to the online personal-finance publication.

Towns only qualified for the list, released Sept. 4, if their population is lower than 10,000 and the 2024 average home value is at least $50,000 lower than the state average.

Woodlynne ranked second in the nation. The quarter-square-mile borough, sandwiched between Camden and Collingswood, has a population of 2,904 and an average home value of $185,326.

The average single-family home in New Jersey costs about $554,000, according to GoBankingRates.

Here are the respective rankings of three other Camden County towns that made the top 25:

  • 15. Audubon: average home value of $361,092.
  • 16. Laurel Springs: average home value of $361,092.
  • 24. Merchantville: average home value of $318,090.

GoBankingRates also considered median household income and monthly expenditures, among other data.

The top-ranked "hidden gem" housing market is Dayton — a small town in southeastern Washington.

No other New Jersey towns made the list.
