GPS-Equipped 'Bait' Package Stolen From Gloucester Twp. Doorstep: Police
Police say the man stole a package that officers placed there as bait for porch pirates during the holiday season.
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A man is facing charges after stealing a GPS-equipped package off a Gloucester Township doorstep that law enforcement left as "bait," police said.
Gloucester Township police placed a "bait package" at a residential address to combat community concerns about package thefts during the holiday season. The package was stolen around 2:20 p.m. Dec. 31 from the Erial section of the township, police said.
The package was equipped with GPS, allowing police to monitor its location. Police recovered the package and identified a suspect.

A 59-year-old Sicklerville man was charged with theft of the fourth-degree, which was later downgraded to a disorderly persons offense. He was released on a summons.
"The Gloucester Township Police Department urges all residents to remain alert to unusual behavior and immediately report any suspicious activity," the department said. "Residents can also take preventative steps to safeguard their packages such as prompt retrieval of items, package tracking, and secure delivery locations."
