'I Have Become A Distraction': Haddonfield Deputy Mayor Resigns From Office

Kevin Roche said criticism of his change in residence made him 'a detriment to the work of my colleagues.'

HADDONFIELD, NJ — A Haddonfield commissioner resigned Tuesday, stating that his change in residence made him a distraction.

Tuesday marked the final meeting for Borough Commissioner Kevin Roche, who was serving as deputy mayor. Roche stated that he recently sold his Haddonfield home and started renting in the borough, legally changing his address.

"I was deliberate in my actions and followed the rules and by-laws for elected officials in town; however, for some, this is not good enough," Roche said in his resignation letter. "I have become a distraction to the office, and a detriment to the work my colleagues are doing in Haddonfield."

Roche was elected to the Borough Board of Commissioners in 2021, serving as commissioner of revenue and finance. The governing body appointed him as Haddonfield's deputy mayor.

His term was set to end on May 20, 2025. Haddonfield holds non-partisan elections every four years for all three seats on the commissioner board.

In his resignation letter, Roche praised his fellow commissioners — Frank Troy and Mayor Colleen Bianco Bezich.

"We may not have always agreed during our tenure, but we presented our issues and positions in a respectful manner...that is what governing is all about," he said.
