Popular Hobby Shop To Close After Over 40 Years In Camden Co.

MAGNOLIA, NJ — One of South Jersey's premier hobby stores is preparing to close up shop after more than 40 years.

AAA Hobbies and Crafts, located in Magnolia, stocks more than 60,000 items for hobbyists and crafters, including model cars, toys and art supplies.

Founded in 1983, the store will close sometime in 2026, according to owners Alan and Michael Bass.

"This was a personal decision made by our entire family," they announced Tuesday on social media. "After months of open and honest conversation, we came to the conclusion that it’s time to close this chapter and begin the next."

MegaHobby.com, the family's online shop ran by Alan and Emily Bass, will also close in 2026. They did not specify when each business will close next year.

The Bass family has been in the hobby industry since 1955, when Felix Bass, an avid stamp collector, decided to travel to local hobby shops and sell his surplus stamps. The products he saw in the stores inspired him to sell hobby products.

Felix and his wife, Inge, cleared space in the basement and main floor of their South Jersey home and began buying model kits, paints and other goods to sell alongside the stamps.

The business continued to grow. In 1982, Felix and Inge partnered with their son, Michael, to open Stevens International, which later became one of the nation's largest hobby distributors.

AAA Hobbies opened in Magnolia a year later and continues to operate under the Bass family's ownership.

"We recognize our exit will leave a void in the local hobby market," Alan and Michael Bass said. "But we’re hopeful that the space will be filled by companies who share the same commitment to integrity and honesty that we have always strived to uphold."

AAA Hobbies is located at 706 N White Horse Pike, Magnolia.
