The new Sprouts opens Friday. Here's what to know about the health grocer and how to save during opening weekend.
HADDON TOWNSHIP, NJ — The opening of Sprouts Farmers Market in Haddon Township is almost here.
The new store will mark the chain's 400th location. But the health-food grocer remains relatively new to New Jersey, with Marlton's store marking the state's first and (until Friday morning) only operating Sprouts market.
Haddon Township's store is located on 640 W Cuthbert Blvd. Here's what to know about the new location, grand-opening weekend and the supermarket chain with a growing Garden State presence.

What exactly is Sprouts Farmers Market?
Founded and headquartered in Arizona, Sprouts opened its first store in 2002 in an effort to make fresh, organic foods less expensive or difficult to find. Fresh produce is at the heart of every store, while the chain offers a variety of organic, plant-based and gluten-free products.
Sprouts operates in 23 states nationwide. Its first New Jersey store opened in 2019 in Marlton. The Haddon Township location will mark the grocer's second in the Garden State, as Sprouts plans future openings in Washington Township and Aberdeen.
Is Sprouts Farmers Market affordable or expensive?
There's no simple answer, as it can largely depend on what you're buying and what you consider to be pricey. If you're looking to save a bit at Sprouts, the store brand offers competitive deals, according to Tasting Table.
Sprouts shares many similarities with Whole Foods, which received the nickname "Whole Paycheck" from shoppers disgruntled over its prices — granted, Whole Foods has lowered its prices since Amazon acquired the grocer in 2017. But when it comes to comparing Sprouts with different chains, that may depend on the product.
In 2018, Philadelphia Magazine conducted an experiment: purchasing similar grocery staples from Sprouts, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. Trader Joe's slightly beat out Sprouts for the lowest quantity-adjusted total price. But the prices were comparable, and some of the items were cheaper at Sprouts.
Either way, opening weekend will give Haddon Township shoppers the chance to apply discounts while perusing store prices.
