2011 Budget Delayed Until Officials Learn How Much State Aid is Coming

Deadline to introduce local budget is extended until after Governor Christie presents state budget on Feb. 22.

The 2011 municipal budget continues to be a work in progress as officials are still in need of essential information regarding state aid and other state mandates which will not be addressed by Governor Christie until later this month during his state budget address.

During Tuesday’s work session, Borough Administrator and Chief Financial Officer Mike Kronyak told the mayor and council that financial statements are due this week which will detail revenue from 2010 which will provide guidance in the formation of the 2011 budget.

The deadline for municipalities to introduce their 2011 budget has been extended to March 11. Originally the deadline was today, Feb. 10; however because the governor is expected to make his budget address on Feb. 22, the deadline was extended.

Kronyak stated that he expects the budget introduction deadline may be extended yet again as a state budget seminar is set for March 11 and it is believed the state will allow more time for the information shared to be worked into the budget.

The state took away approximately $279,000 in aid from Hasbrouck Heights in 2010 with just $100,000 remaining. Mayor Rose Heck said she hopes they don’t lose any more state funding for 2011.
