Cops: Man Forcibly Engaged in Sexual Activity with Minor, Provided Alcohol to Underage Individuals at Mechanics Garage

The 40-year-old Passaic County man was charged with attempted sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child and more.

A Passaic County man was arrested Thursday after police say he provided alcohol to underage individuals at his place of business and ”forcibly engaged in sexual activity with a 16-year-old female.”

According to Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli, Garrett Haskins, 40, of Passaic, provided the alcohol to the minors and forcibly engaged in sexual activity with the 16-year-old acquaintance at a mechanics garage where he worked.

Lodi police responded to the garage after the victim told her friend what had occurred and the victim was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center.

Arrangements were also made for the victim to be interviewed by a detective from the Special Victims Unit and the Lodi Police Department at the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office in Paramus. During that interview, the victim provided specific details regarding what had occurred with Haskins, which resulted in his arrest, Molinelli said. 

Haskins was charged with one count each of attempted sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child for sexual conduct by a non-parent, endangering the welfare of a child for providing alcohol to a minor and providing alcohol to a minor, and two counts of criminal sexual contact.

Bail was set at $150,000 with no ten percent option, no contact with the victim and the surrender of his passport as conditions of bail. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.
