Cub Scouts Assist with Elks' Flag Day Service

Members of Cub Scout Pack 17 once again played a very important role taking part in the annual Flag Day services Thursday.

This was the second year in a row that the Cub Scouts joined in the annual Flag Day services, a longstanding tradition the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks has been taking part in since the early days of the organization.

Dominick Anuzzi, past district deputy and exalted ruler led the services along with other officers. The scouts assisted during the history of our flag portion of the service which chronicles where the Flag has flown and what its stars and stripes represent.

After the services, Joyce Powell, past vice president of the Elks Lodge, presented the Cub Scouts with a check for $150 towards the youth organization’s community project of collecting items for children entering foster homes. Powell said the Elks wanted to help out their organization in return for the help they give to their own.

Pack committee chair Tricia Sonzogni said the scouts are collecting new items such as pajamas, books, toiletries, stuffed animals to make “first night” bags which will be given to children entering foster homes to give them some comfort on their first night. Anyone willing to donate items towards their project can contact her by emailing triciarn@aol.com.
