80-Year-Old Hardware Store In Bergen County To Close

A longtime hardware store in Bergen County has said its goodbyes, but will be open a few more weeks, they said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A longtime hardware store in Bergen County is saying goodbye.

Benjamin Brothers True Value Hardware in Tenafly will close its doors on Jan. 31 of next year, they confirmed by phone.

A co-owner said that although they are closing their house accounts with customers as of this Wednesday, they will be open through next month. A report in another news outlet saying they will close Wednesday was incorrect, they noted.

The store, on Summit Street on Tenafly, wrote, "After 80 years of service, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors ... We would like to express our sincere appreciation to our customers for their continued support and patronage throughout the years."

They added, "It has been an honor to serve Tenafly and the surrounding communities, and we are deeply grateful for the memories, relationships, and experiences we have gained along the way ... Please note that we will no longer be accepting returns as of January 1, 2026."

The owner declined to comment on the reason for the closing, except to say that she was grateful for all the calls of support she's received. "We've had so many awesome calls," she said.

The store is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., except Sunday. Their website is here.
