Dozens of Heights Businesses Take Part in First Restaurant Week

Chic Charity Club bring Heights businesses together in a first annual event that raises funds for the American Cancer Society.

The first annual Boulevard Restaurant Week is underway and is off to a good start.

The Chic Charity Club put this event together working closely with dozens of business owners who quickly jumped on board to take part in this event raising funds and spreading awareness for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life while also helping to promote local small businesses.

All this week until Saturday, May 11 select shops, restaurants and salons will donate a portion of their sales to the Chic Charity Club’s team which will walk at Relay for Life. Patrons may be asked to present a flyer (see attached PDF) or mention Boulevard Restaurant Week upon purchase.

Many business owners were very eager to take part and some were still jumping in to take part mid-week like Shadow Market, said Melissa Saccomano of the Chic Charity Club.

“We’re coming together as a community for a good cause,” says Saccamano.

“The merchants here  give so much support to Hasbrouck Heights,” she says pointing out how many of them sponsor baseball teams and soccer teams and other community events.

“It’s time for us to give back and I hope the community feels the same way,” says Saccamano.

Corrine Seidel at Lovey’s Pizza helped kick off the week by hosting ‘Pizza with a Purpose’ a two-day event held Sunday and Monday which was an instant success drawing in children, even adults, who got to make their own pizzas with a portion of the proceeds going towards the Relay. Seidel even gave the youngsters certificates for participating.

“It was awesome, the dining room was rocking,” says Seidel who says both kids and adults filed into the dining room to make their own pizzas.

Ray Vorisek, owner of the Heights Flower Shoppe, and Bill O’Shea’s Florist owner John Kosakowski are both taking part – A busy week for both as Mother’s Day is this Sunday the two flower shops are both taking part in this event. It’s always a friendly competition between the two shops, they both said.

Saccamano says the club is so happy to have the owners of both flower shops on board knowing it’s one of their busiest weeks with Mother’s Day this weekend.

Vorisek, who is the chamber of commerce president, says it’s been a good response so far considering it’s first time the town has really done something like this. It’s a learning experience and something that can even bigger once more people catch on, he says.

The club reached out to as many businesses as possible in a short time as they put this entire event together quite quickly, she says. They tried to include "a little of everything" she says as businesses from restaurants to jewlery, ice cream, salons, and convenience stores signed up to take part.

If merchants still wants to participate they can make a donation to the Chic Charity Club’s team for the Relay for Life, says Saccamano.

Andy De Micco of Heights Bar & Grill, an active supporter  of the community and the Chic Charity Club’s efforts, will be donating his services preparing food for the Relay for Life event, says Saccamano.

“He is excited about the community getting together to further the cause with this first annual Boulevard Restaurant Week,” she said about DeMicco who says has done many fundraisers with the club including helping to raise money for Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.

The Chic Charity Club members plans to head to Heights Bar and Grill Friday night to celebrate the success of the week.

It all closes out on Saturday which is also Paint the Town Purple day, where all are encouraged to hang purple ribbons around town to show support in the fight against cancer.
