Engineers report fireplace structure will remain in tact following concerns that water damage could threaten its preservation.

There is good news for the historic fireplace at Woodland Park.
The main portion of the decades-old fireplace will not need to be replaced at all when the new pavilion slated to come this Spring goes up. There had been some concerns that water damage to the interior could have been so severe the strucuture would be need to be rebuilt.
Engineers have since inspected it further and have determined only the top portion will need to be rebuilt, said Councilwoman Sonya Buckman during her parks reports last week.

According to Borough Engineer Ken Job Job the top of the structure began to deteriorate on the interior side due to water infilitrating in as the area connecting the chimney to the fireplace had been sealed when it was put up many decades ago.
Borough officials made it a point to preserve the structure, a cherished staple Woodland Park which was donated by the Lions Club decades ago, upon having a new pavilion put up at the park. The new pavilion will be constructed around the existing fireplace.
