Heights-Based Rockers Playing BergenPac

Classic rockers Zebra hand-picked Doomsday Diaries to open up for them on this leg of their 2013 summer tour.

Local rockers Doomsday Diaries featuring teen "Twins of Doom" Jason and Sean Sproviero of Hasbrouck Heights got themselves a big gig this weekend - opening up for hard rock band Zebra at BergenPAC this Friday night.

This gig is just one of the many cool things happening for the band these days which just recently brought in new singer Ella Hester. But perhaps the coolest part of all is the way the band got this gig.

Band manager and proud father Scott Sproveriero says the band was playing a show at Mexicali Live in Teaneck, their home court, last September when Felix Hanneman of Zebra, a band which had a huge following in the early 1980s, happened to be in the audience and liked what he saw. He asked Doomsday Diaries to be the opening band for the BergenPAC show.

"We're really excited about this," said Sproviero who said BergenPAC is not a venue the band would've otherwise been able to get into as it doesn't book unsigned bands but Hanneman and his promoter "really stood up for these kids."

Although all the members of Doomsday Diaries are still in their teens the band members all share a love for classic rock.

"They seem to play well to that crowd and musicians who hear them really appreciate what they do. It's really gratifying for them to be recognized by peope in the industry," said Sproviero.

New singer Ella shares a love for many of the same bands the Sean and Jason do and therefore it's "a match made in heaven" said Sproviero.

Ella, 16, hails from Brooklyn is considered one of the top female vocalists at the New York City School of Rock.

The band, which also includes Dominick Calabrese on drums, is currently working on a full-length CD which is expected to be out in September, said Sproviero.

The show is set for Friday, May 17 at 8 p.m. at Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood. For more information visit the BergenPac website.
